Taplow Court - Taplow, Berkshire

Taplow Court is a Grade II listed historic park on the River Thames which is contiguous with the neighbouring Clivedon estate. Our setting for the new cultural centre for SGI-UK balanced the many constraints of the important landscape with the opportunities presented by the placing of a modern building in the grounds of the estate. A modern, minimal landscape setting with a curving, stone terrace, semi-circular lawn and enclosing yew hedge assisted in ‘bedding’ in the building with its surroundings. The landscape restoration plan was undertaken for planning purposes and we worked on the plans for the restoration of the walled garden and creation of an herb garden.
