A six-storey Graduate Centre is set in a new campus landscape of public realm, ‘green’ squares, SUDs rain gardens, courtyards and roof gardens. The large scale landscape scheme completes the external spaces of the University campus at Mile End, in London. We created a series of squares with green courts which connect with the existing network of squares and routes. The planting includes a diverse range of species that benefit wildlife and also create interesting places for students to meet, relax and study. The large green squares are planted with short wild flower lawns, with herb and productive gardens to the edges. A rain garden supports the SUDS drainage for the large open paved squares. Green and brown roofs are located at upper floor levels next to the new Reading Room. Vertical habitats have been introduced into the campus with a network of ivy screens, climbers and tree planting.
