The regeneration of a Georgian square which is now surrounded by post war public housing. We consulted widely; seeking the views of local residents and tapping into their aspirations for a durable and pleasant place to visit and enjoy. An imaginative programme was developed that successfully engaged the local community bringing the design process to the people through a variety of events, workshops and information-gathering day trips. Thus informed, the design led to the replacement of playground equipment, the provision of new play surfaces and the addition of new planting.
With a community gardener in post and continuing local involvement has ensured that the square is well-used and cared for; a venue for many local events.
