A master planning commission from the Chester Race Company in association with Pentagram Design. Chester Racecourse is set outside the historic walls of the city, on a grassy bowl (which in Roman times was a harbour). The historic stables are within the city centre and the master plan brief was to explore the possibility of consolidating the facilities by relocating the stables and associated grounds to new buildings within the racecourse. A new grandstand, hotel and archaeological interpretation centre were also sensitively placed within the racecourse grounds.
