Taplow Court

Berkshire, UK

Taplow Court is a Grade II listed historic park on the River Thames which is contiguous with the neighbouring National Trust Clivedon Estate. Our setting for the new cultural centre proposed by SGI-UK, balanced the many constraints of the important historic landscape with the opportunities presented by the placing of a modern building in the grounds of the estate. A modern, minimal landscape setting with a curving stone terrace, semi-circular lawn and enclosing yew hedge assisted in ‘bedding’ in the building with its surroundings. Our detailed landscape restoration plan was undertaken as part of the planning process which complemented our plans for the restoration of the walled garden and creation of an herb garden.

The development is sustainable with grey water re-cycled from the roof into a swale from which water percolates into the parkland.
