Nelson Square - London, UK

The redevelopment of a run-down square with its origins in the 18th Century, now surrounded by public housing. We consulted widely; seeking the views and gauging local aspirations. An imaginative programme was developed that brought the process to the people through events, workshops and information-gathering day trips. Thus informed, the design led to the replacement of playground equipment, the provision of new play surfaces and the addition of new planting.

With a community gardener in post, continuing local involvement has ensure that the square is well-used and cared for; a venue for many local events.
