The existing old garden walls inspired the design concept ‘Walled City Gardens’ creating a series of terraced gardens which compliment the formality and elegance of the town house.  

The Summer Garden – Formal hedging elements give the garden a sense of enclosure, a Hornbeam screen to the south and two Yew columns to the threshold of the garden echo the form and structure of the existing wall piers. The simplicity of the formal lawn is enhanced with a single Magnolia tree providing shade and a sense of privacy from adjacent properties. Shade tolerant species create a garden colour scheme of deep greens and vibrant whites marked with purple-blue hues from Echinops and Digitalis. A sculptural piece set upon a stone plinth provides a focal point within the garden.

The Old Rose Garden – The existing walls contain the garden on either side creating a classic backdrop for an abundance of climbing roses interlaced with Clematis and Jasmine. Two rectangular planting beds reiterate the geometric form of The Summer Garden contained using ground cover roses to form a low border. Sensory, tactile shrubs such as Lavender and Santolinea planted along side Stipa and Verbena to add height, texture and movement. A sculptural piece set upon a stone plinth provides a focal point from the adjacent seating area.

The Terrace – The terraces are reminiscent of a traditional walled kitchen garden, the planting is productive incorporating a variety of herbs such as Lavender, Thyme, Sage and Mint. Bay and Fig trees planted within large terracotta pots offer height and structural form. A profusion of climbing roses in light and deep pinks creates a feature of the wall along the east side of the garden.

Front Garden – The geometric design of the garden is accentuated through the use of Yew.
